General Description: This course is designed to give students the opportunity to develop woodworking skills with hand and power tools. Students learn a basic level of skill and knowledge in shop and tool safety by using the equipment proficiently on assigned projects.  The objective of wood shop is to teach students the Design/Build process and the skills necessary to be successful in a work environment.

Content:

  • Correct tool use
  • Woodworking joinery, gluing, clamping and finishing techniques
  • Careers in woodworking construction, industrial trends, post-high school education requirements for various career-related employment trades

Strategies:  Students learn through a combination of:

  • Teacher demonstration
  • Student practice and construction in the shop
  • Students helping one another through cooperative learning practices

Homework:  Wood shop does not have a homework component.  All work will be completed during class time.  Students who need additional time to complete their projects will be given opportunities each week to come and work in the wood shop after school.

Course Fee / Materials:  $35 fee.  Course fee depends on teacher preference of projects.
