General Description: The magic of theatre begins with the tech crew! In this course students will enjoy exploring what goes on backstage. Many hours will be completed via blocks of time as tech crew support. Through hands-on activities and projects students will gain experience in rigging, property design, construction, and organization, basic flat construction, elements of lighting and light board operation, scenic painting techniques, stage management, and the overall care of the theatre. Students will contribute practical hours to support community and school productions. Students may also acquire practical hours through designing lights for concerts, acting as the light board operator, helping to build sets for productions, acting as stage manager for school productions, etc. Careers will be explored through interaction with professional theatre companies, guest artists, field trips, and fieldwork. The course is designed to prepare students for actual work in performance related fields.

Homework: Students will be required to complete outside reading assignments from their class text. Teacher will also assign reading from in-class packets. Students will also view instructional videos outside of class.
Format: This class meets Mondays/Wednesdays afterschool with additional hrs acting as tech crew for IHS Performing Arts Department (there is a 45 total hour requirement for each semester of this course.
Length/Credit: This is a year long course for .5 credit.
