Learning Recommendations:  Students are expected to have passed ASL 1 with a grade of a C- or better, or have completed an equivalent course from another educational institution, or score at a proficient level on the ISD standardized comprehension and cultural knowledge test.

General Description:  In ASL 2 emphasis is on expanding grammatical understanding of ASL, functional application of ASL, vocabulary and understanding and appreciation of the Deaf culture and Deaf community. To encourage and foster the development of these skills, voicing in the classroom will be avoided. Students increase their expressive and receptive skills, increase understanding of deaf culture and history, and learn about causes and types of hearing losses. Storytelling and narratives, as well as dialogues, are used to increase communicative competence.

CTE Dual Credit:  This course is CTE Dual Credit approved and articulated with Lake Washington Institute of Technology. Students who demonstrate proficiency of the college course competencies with a ‘B’ (3.0) or better grade may be eligible to earn college credit through the Tech Prep program. Students MUST register for CTE Dual Credit while they are enrolled in the high school course and also are required to pay a non-refundable $50 annual consortium fee.
