Learning Recommendations: Students need to have Child Development or apply with instructor approval. Students need to be a Junior or Senior. Second semester internships will be available for students earning a “C” 2.0 grade point average and above in Teaching Academy.
General Description: This course is designed for students who are interested in a career in Education, including those looking at positions such as recreation specialist, coach, corporate trainer or education assistant. The Teaching Academy will include basic instruction at the high school early in the year and an internship at an elementary or secondary school in the Issaquah School District second semester.
Leadership: Students will be expected to join and participate in the Family and Consumer Sciences leadership club, FCCLA. If students have financial hardships, the fee will be waived, please discuss this with the teacher.
- Students learn current issues in education, teaching procedures, classroom management and professionalism.
- Students observe in a variety of classrooms and have an opportunity to practice their own teaching skills in a supervised internship experience.

Notes: Students must provide their own transportation with a minimum liability insurance of $100,000/$300,000 required. Completion of this course with a “B” or better qualifies students for college credit at various community/technical college programs in our area.
