Learning Recommendations: Basic music reading, recording, and mixing skills recommended, but not required.

General Description: Have you ever wanted to write your own original music or re-mix your favorite tracks? Then Songwriting and Sequencing is the class for you!

Content: Students will use computers to compose and record basic, one-part pieces, and then advance to multi-part compositions. Students will use the Note Flight notation program to write original music. Music First applications will be used for sequencing and recording projects. Students will compose or compile multiple original compositions and songs throughout the semester. Students will also learn the art of studio recording, mixing, and mastering. The styles of folk, rock, jazz, funk, blues, and classical will be explored. 

Strategies:

  • Daily instruction and practice in composition, the use of Music First software, and audio mixing
  • Music listening and analysis

Equipment to be provided by Student: Ear buds or headphones and a USB drive for holding arrangements, scores and reflections
