Learning Recommendations: "B" or higher in both semesters of CC Algebra 2

General Description: IB Math 1 SL is the first of two years that prepare students to take the IB Standard Level (SL) Math exam. This course is designed for the student who wishes to complete an IB math class as part of a well-rounded high school experience. The IB SL Math exam will be given at the end of the next course (IB Math 2 SL). IB dictates that students may not sit for SL exams until the spring of their junior year.

Content:

  • Polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric, radical, and absolute functions
  • Triangles
  • Trigonometric identities
  • Conic sections
  • Sequences and series
  • Probability and statistics

Strategies: Students will learn through a combination of:

  • Teacher-directed instruction
  • Small group collaboration

Equipment to be provided by Student: Scientific calculator AND graphing calculator; TI-Nspire (not CAS) is recommended
