- Successful completion of SCI200 - Biology or SCI125 - Chemistry Laboratory Methods
General Description:
- Laboratory course that meets a science requirement for graduation.
- Meets descriptions of lab-based science course for college entrance requirements as outlined by the Washington Student Achievement Council.
- Uses the McGraw Hill textbook Marine Biology, used in both high school and college courses.
Content: The content includes, but is not limited to:
- Chemical, physical and geological aspects of the marine environment
- Ecology of various sea zones
- Marine communities
- Diversity of marine organisms
- Characteristics of major marine ecosystems
- Characteristics of major marine phyla/divisions
- Interrelationship between man and ocean
Strategies: Students will learn through a combination of:
- Lecture/discussion
- Inquiry-based laboratory work
- Modeling
- Dissections
- Demonstrations (teacher or student-directed)
- Field trips (at least one per semester)
- Student project and research

Homework: Outside work is required for independent research, completion of projects, and regular homework assignments given once a week.
