Learning Recommendations:  In order to be successful in French I, it is recommended that students have C- or better in English class.

General Description:  French 1 provides an introduction to the language and culture of the French-speaking world. Students will engage in meaningful communication on a variety of topics drawn from everyday life. They will develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills using both interpersonal, interpretive and presentational modes of communication. Through readings, video, music and art, students will develop an understanding of the cultural practices and perspectives of French-speaking countries. They will make connections to other subject areas as they learn about the history and geography of the Francophone world and its contributions to mathematics, science, the arts, and the development of the English language. Students will be taught predominantly in French. However, English will be used as needed to support the comprehension of some complex grammatical structures.

Homework:  Students should spend 10 -20 minutes daily studying, in addition to their homework assignments.  Students will need access to the Internet to use their on-line textbook and do homework on the D’accord website.
