General Description: Theatre Arts and Performance 1 is a general acting class which introduces students to the various aspects of theatre arts.
Content: This class focuses on the foundations of theatre and acting. Students participate physically and verbally every day. Training the body, voice and mind, the class moves from concentration and ensemble building exercises through characterization, mime, staging, improvisation and script analysis. Activities in acting include monologue practice, pantomime, scene study and performance. Appreciation of drama will be enhanced through guest artists, field trips, and examining the history of theatre and various acting techniques. This class may be repeated for credit.
Strategies: Students will learn to work as an ensemble by engaging in drama games and warm up activities. Students will participate in solo and partner scene work where they will have the opportunity to apply various learned acting techniques. After learning techniques on script analysis, and gaining an understanding of stage composition, students will have the opportunity to make relevant artistic choices for their final scene work project.
Homework: Occasional reading assignments. Memorization of scenes and monologues.
