General Description Identify cybersecurity threats and protect against them. Detect intrusions and respond to attacks. Begin to examine your own digital footprint and better defend your own personal data. Learn how organizations protect themselves in today’s world. Whether seeking a career in the emerging field of cybersecurity or learning to defend your own personal data or a company’s data, students in Cybersecurity establish an ethical code of conduct while learning to defend data in today’s complex cyberworld.

Content:  Students will learn about: foundational cybersecurity topics including digital citizenship and personal data protection, the basics of cryptography, software security, networking fundamentals, and basic system administration, computer forensics, transmission control protocols and Internet Protocol, network and computer attacks, desktop and operating systems vulnerabilities, programming for security professionals, hacking web servers and wireless networks and network protection systems.

Strategies:  The content is a mix of web-based and physical activities. Students will modify existing code and run it in the browser, investigate cyber related topics and reflect/discuss them, create digital presentations, and engage in in-person collaborative exercises with classmates.

Homework:  Students may be required to complete online reading and tutorials to prepare for classes.
