Learning Recommendations:  This course is recommended for grades 9-11.                                         

General Description: This semester-long graduation requirement covers a variety of health related topics that affect teens today. The course encourages students to develop healthful attitudes and practices for life-long benefit. Through various facets of health including physical, emotional, mental, social and community.  As a part of the Health course curriculum students will be certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and in First Aid. Students will also learn about HIV/AIDS and Human Sexuality through the Family Life and Sexual Health curriculum (FLASH). Students are expected to earn their CPR/AED & First Aid certification and contribute to mature discussions within the FLASH unit. Students earn the American Heart Association (AHA) CPR/AED & First Aid card after completing the certification process for which there is a $5.00 fee.

Homework:  Homework is minimal for this class unless it is not completed in class or is a large project that requires work outside of class.

CTE Dual Credit:  This course is CTE Dual Credit approved and articulated with Bellevue College or Lake Washington Institute of Technology. Students who demonstrate proficiency of the college course competencies with a ‘B’ (3.0) or better grade may be eligible to earn college credit through the Dual Credit program. Students MUST register for CTE Dual Credit while they are enrolled in the high school course and are required to pay a non-refundable $50 annual consortium fee.
