Learning Recommendations:  Previous music class experience is recommended

General Description:  This class is designed for the student interested in learning the inner workings of music theory. Students will learn and use skills to study and analyze musical compositions as well as learning basic composition skills. Students will also study music from numerous time periods and the composers most prominent during those times. 

Content: Theory fundamentals, diatonic triads and 7th chords, chromaticism, and late Romanticism and 20th Century practices. Study of history of Early Music, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th Century music history and composers in connection with theory practices of the time. 

Strategies:  In addition to class discussions, students will complete written work including projects of composition and music analysis, written papers, presentations or podcasts.

Homework:  Will vary with projects but average daily should be no more than 30 minutes.

Course Fee / Materials:  Folder/binder, composition notebook, blank manuscript paper and pencils.
