General Description: Students learn art skills and the principles and elements of design. This is an overview of art materials, concepts, and skills, including discussions on the artist’s historic role in society. This course is appropriate for all students and serves as necessary preparation for ART215 - Studio Art 2.
Content:
- Elements and principles of design using a variety of media
- Technical skills using a variety of media
- Some anatomy of human and other bodies
Strategies: Students will learn through a combination of:
- Hands-on projects
- Direct instruction
- Skill development
Equipment to be provided by Student: An 8" x 10" or 9" x 12" sketchbook, blank pages, spiral bound only. No other size permitted.
