General Description: Students will work out a course of study with the individual teacher per IB Guidelines. The IB Diploma Programme visual arts course encourages students to challenge their own creative and cultural expectations and boundaries. It is a thought-provoking course in which students develop analytical skills in problem-solving and divergent thinking, while working towards technical proficiency and confidence as art-makers. In addition to exploring and comparing visual arts from different perspectives and in different contexts, students are expected to engage in, experiment with and critically reflect upon a wide range of contemporary practices and media.
While there is an exam fee for this class students submit a portfolio of work rather than sit for an actual exam in May. Students in their first year (SL) of IB Visual Arts have the option of submitting at the SL level or continuing for a second year with IB Visual Arts HL and submitting their portfolio of work in 12th grade. For specifics on the required submissions please check with the course instructors.
Equipment to be provided by Student: Pencil, sketchbook
