Learning Recommendations: "A-" or higher in both semesters of MT300A/B - Common Core Algebra 2

General Description:

Pre-HL Math is the first year of a 3-year sequence of math intended for students who will complete MT649A/B - IB Math Analysis and Approaches HL 1 and MT650A/B - IB Math Analysis and Approaches HL 2 in their junior and senior years. This course is designed for the student who may wish to focus on mathematics, engineering, or science after high school and is ready to learn concepts at a faster pace and at a deeper level of understanding. This sequence of math courses prepares students for sitting for the Higher Level Math exam in May of their senior year.


  • Polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions
  • Trigonometric identities
  • Sequences and series
  • Probability and statistics


Students will learn through a combination of:

  • Teacher-directed instruction
  • Small group collaboration

Equipment to be provided by Student: Scientific and graphing calculators are required. If you need to purchase a scientific calculator, the TI-30XIIS is recommended. A TI-brand graphing calculator (not CAS) is the recommended graphing calculator and is used in classroom instruction. If there is a concern about the cost, please see the ASB bookkeeper or your counselor.
