Learning Recommendations: Teacher recommendation

General Description: In Pre-Algebra, students will learn about and explore topics to develop the foundational skills necessary for success in MT100A/B - Common Core Algebra 1. This course prepares students to be mathematically literate as well as prepare them for future courses and state standardized tests.

Content:

Content is determined by student learning needs with the goal of success in Algebra 1. Therefore, which topics are emphasized can vary from year to year. Common topics include, but may not be limited to:

  • Rational Numbers and Operations
  • Algebraic Expressions
  • One and Two-step Equations
  • Ratio and Proportions
  • Linear Equations
  • Percents
  • Probability
  • Functions
  • Exponents and Radicals
  • Geometry

Strategies:

Students will learn through a combination of:

  • Direct instruction
  • Collaborative instructional approach
  • Technology enhanced instruction

Equipment to be provided by Student: Scientific calculator. If you need to purchase one, the TI-30XIIS is recommended. A graphing calculator is NOT required until Common Core Algebra 2 and above.
